Native Oral Allergen Immunotherapy
Sublingual immunotherapy is an alternative to subcutaneous immunotherapy offering a significantly reduced risk of serious side effects, and can be taken at home rather than in a clinic setting.
Numerous clinical studies have shown that sublingual vaccines have a much higher safety profile than traditional subcutaneous immunotherapy with comparable efficacy.
Being able to be taken at home offers patients greater convenience - reducing the need to take time off work or school for doctor’s visits and travel costs. This means that sublingual immunotherapy can be a more cost effective immunotherapy option.
Sublingual immunotherapy is required to be be taken once daily at the same time each day. The treatment and dose is the same for children and adults.
Sublingual immunotherapy is supplied pursuant to s29 of the Medicines Act 1981.
